Turku

I'm in Turku this week spending some time with a friend/colleague who works at one of the universities here. Turku was the former capital of Finland before the city went up in flames during a big fire in the 1800s (a sauna accident?). It is a beautiful city. So far, I've been working mostly with my lap top set up in one of the many cafes that line the river bank. It's nice to be out of the office.

Yes...the ash is a bit disconcerting. Am closely monitoring the situation. But wouldn't it be lovely to be stranded in Europe and escape the Melbourne winter entirely?

HHHMMMmmm... grey skies, rain, mid teens temps, rivers full of water - so far doesn't sound that different to OZ!!

No...it feels like I'm back in Australia...except the people all look very strange...elf-like (it's the land of santa Claus after all).
