I caught up with a friend mid week for dumplings in the city.

Towards the end of our meal, four customers walked in, two of whom were transgender.

Before the customers had even taken their seats, I could hear the waiters commenting to each other in Chinese. "They're men," one of them said.

I was so disappointed, especially given the rainbow sticker on the front door of the restaurant.

If the staff were only commenting that they were men, is that so bad? One of our favourite Thai places in the city has, or had, a Asian trans waiter and an Asian born acquaintance who had a restaurant in Acland Street employed a trans, without any bother so far as I know. I do remember a young female customer saying about her/him, isn't she lovely.

They carried on a bit too much. Once they made the observation, that should have been the end of it, but they kept going on and on making comments in Chinese. Most of the customers probably wouldn't have noticed.
